I saw this movie tonight. Very poignant ensemble piece. This movie was actually directed and written by Emilio Estevez in what was an 8 year labor of love. The movie centers around 20 different people and their lives on that eventful night in 68 when Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated in the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles.
William H. Macy plays the hotel manager who is having an affair with a switchboard operator played by Heather Graham. Anthony Hopkins and Harry Bellafonte play the retired doormen with nothing to do but hang out at the hotel and play chess. Demi Moore plays a famous singer and Emilio plays her tagalong husband. Moore is a total drunk in this movie and her boytoy Ashton Kutcher plays a total hippie druggie who deals out of the hotel. Joshua Jackson is on the Kennedy campaign and plays a pretty good part. Lawrence Fishburne plays the role of a cook through part of the movie. Christian Slater is the kitchen manager who gets fired for how he treats his employees. Martin Sheen and Helen Hunt play an upscale couple staying at the hotel. Elijah Wood and Lindsay Lohan play a young couple getting married to try to keep him out of Vietnam.
All their lives center around Robert Kennedy. The actor who played Robert Kennedy really didn't have much to do as most of the footage was Archival footage from Robert Kennedy's appearances so the actor really was there as a body double. The movie was pretty uplifting up until the part where Kennedy gets shot. It ended sad as you thought it would but most of the ended had a voiceover from one of Robert Kennedy's speeches. I liked the movie very nice poignant movie.
