this year sees the release of the Prequel to The Thing...strangely enough,it's called 'The Thing'

remember the Norwegians that originally found The Thing?,well this is to be the story of them set 3 days before the 1982 film, how they found the Thing under the ice,the effects it had on all of them and i am presuming its gonna be ending with them chasing that Husky dog across the Arctic plains

set for release around Fall/Autumn this year...but can it be even half as good as John Carpenters original remake?

remember the guy who played Owen Lars in the prequel Star Wars Trilogy?,yeah well he stars

here are a few pics

definately feels like everything is being remade/rebooted at the moment or it has a number after its name. What is it with movies companies right now? feels like they only want to put money in films that people will definaltey going to see (again), inteade of taking a chance a brining out something new

I have to ask, why a prequel? I mean we all know how it will end with them all dead, apart from like you said the 2 in the helicopter chasing the dog. I just hope they don't plan to remake Carpenters Thing as a follow up.

In my book they would have been better off making a sequel to the Thing starting with them finding Kurt Russels character frozen in the ice.

The original scared the crap out of me as a kid, so I don't need to relive that nightmare. Oh love the avatar Mobeye.

I love the old black and white one, it's just so cheesy it's great. When you watch the extras on the John Carpenter DVD version, it amazing some of the stuff the effects guys did back then without the help of cgi.

Thanks Wnchstr, can't believe you have posted on this thread and not mentioned what helicopter it is at the start of the Thing

Still called 'The Thing',and still a prequel with the Norwegians finding the space craft etc etc

this is from IMDb i found

Quote

Is this film a remake of the 1982 film "The Thing"?

Yes and No. This film will actually serve as a prequel to the 1982 movie The Thing, as the film will detail the events that took place in the Norwegian camp from that film. However, since the previous film already told the events, this is both a remake on two accounts: Re-using the same formula from the 1982 film and re-making the events of the Norwegian base. Since it won't be an accurate puzzle piece and will be altered for today's audience, it is in fact a remake imitating a prequel. According to the screenwriter, painstaking care has been taken to assure that the prequel will take into account all the details about the Norwegians and their camp as seen in the original movie. The movie will end where the original film begins. However, other sources say that this movie will also continue where the original story ended.

The reason the movie has the same title as the first film is because the filmmakers felt that adding a subtitle such as "The Thing: Begins", "The Thing: Origins" and so forth, did not sound as reverential as just simply naming it "The Thing".

If you look up any of the proposed and existing "Thing" projects they all have "The Thing" as their title. Unfortunately, this confuses a lot of the public audience, but that's the title Universal wants.

I am hoping this will do the John Carpenter film some justice and be a good prequel instead of a typical cash in...that means no stupid CGi effects,i want them to do the special effects the same as they did in the '82 version...but that aint gonna happen

Trailer Time!!!

have to say it looks quite good, especially for fans of the '82 version as it doesn't look that much different especially in atmosphere, the trailer also looks like it could be what i wished for in the last post that its all about suspense and not shit loads of bullshit computer graphics
