looks like a Akira movie is a step closer to reality

History for those of you not up on Akira:

Akira started out as a Manga Comic/Graphic Novel, and then later turned into a Manga Anime, which made both Akira and Anime more mainstream outside of its native Japan..the Graphic Novels are usually now presented or reprinted in a 6 volume collection

here is the trailer for the Akira Anime to refresh your memories, that was made in 1988,but not released in the U.S,AU or UK until the 90s

but it may be more a film adaptation of the graphic novels, and not so much the Anime

Kotaku

Quote

The screen version will be penned by Iron Man writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and produced by Leonardo DiCaprio. Instead of trying to cram all of 2,000 plus pages of the Akira manga epic into two hours, Warner Bros. is planning on releasing the film in two parts. Each part would cover three volumes of the manga. (Not entirely convinced the world even needs a Hollywood adaptation of Akira!)

as much as i love Akira, and it still being my favourite Manga/Anime...i just can't see them getting the same atmosphere as the Cartoon

this part of the comment above is the most interesting....

....as it does suggest that they are thinking of the Graphic Novel and not just the Anime, and there were 6 volumes altogether

there is an IMDB page up for it,which only tells us they are aiming for a 2013 release

so what do you think?,will it work?,is this the Anime/Manga that deserves to be concentrated on?

if that bike is featured, which everyone loved in the Anime,i hope the film version of it doesn't make it look like a suped up version of a sinclair C5

I hope they can make something good out of it. It's still not a mainstream comic to the US like Iron Man was, but it is international and they can make money that way with it.

If it's made, they have to take their time. Could they have Peter Jackson and the oirginal anime director produce/direct please?

Great movie (confusing to a degree if you didn't read the GN's). I got it on VHS and DVD hard case as well as the motion picture soundtrack. If you can find a copy or download it from itunes you will not be dissappointed.

man I wish I bought the toys.

If it's on a scale or quality like LOTR, it can be great.

The movie was a hard to figure out and a little 'artsy". When it first came out, it was amazing to see how they used had drawn and some CGI .

Japanimation/Manga/Anime/JRPGs are always nuts Pogue, you should know that by now

Akira was my first Manga film i saw, loved every minute of it,which later on gave me confidence to go to the cinema to see Ghost in the Shell, and i fell asleep...awful in cinema, great on VHS/DVD

as i can pretty much say i wont see another Manga film at the cinema,a live action one is the only way,but even still i may just wait until DVD

i would much prefer another Akira cartoon(or two) to cover the rest of the story
