Movie Review: Star Trek

guess what i went and saw?
Well i managed to find someone to go with. Man, what a film!
you know the story this is prequel to how Jame T Kirk rises thru the ranks of Starfleet and how the crew of the Enterprise became to be.
The film is great, a strong story backbone. Eric Bana play a Romulan on a quest for revenge against Spock across time and space. dont wanna give too much away but Leonard Nimoy plays than just a Cameo role, and Sylar plays an awesome "early Spock"
All of the films budget is up on the screen as it is visually spectacular. There are plenty of homages to the old Star Trek that that will keep the old skool happy (I am not a big trekkie fan, but i was picking them up thick and fast). You can really see how the actors have threaded themselves into the charaters, the guy that played Bones was just brillant, Simon Pegg did a great Scotty (would have been nice to get him into the film sooner, but it was justified when and where they intoduced him).
The film fleshed out Kirks backstory, including the famous question of how he beat the "unwinnable" Kobayashi Maru training program. See below for some history (its not from the film so there is no spoiler and will add a layer to the film)
loved the film, wouldnt mind seeing it again. definate Bluray purchase
9.5 Skintoxications out of 10

I think they are starting up a whole new line of Star Trek films right from the beginning. As now we are in an "alternate reality" they can rewrite/rerun all new scenarios (I can only hope). As I am a die hard Star Trek fan, (I remember waiting anxiously for the running of Star Trek every Saturday night on the telly when I was a kid!). The movie paid homage to the old as well as paving a new path to more new movies and concepts . The only thing that I didn't really care for was that the cinematography left a lot to be desired. While the action scenes were riveting, they were very blurry and I see no reason to buy this movie in High Def when it comes out on DVD. I will definitely be buying it though!

I too saw this film as well as Angels and Demons last week. Okay I loved the film one thing I found annoying though was the director's constant use of lens flares. You know what I'm talking about all that bright light in parts where it wasn't even warranted. Even the director agreed that was a silly decision on his part

Yeah i noticed the "artificial light flare" a few times, one or twice I did wonder if the screen was playing up (and it was a piss poor cinema i went to), i think i happened a few times when they panned across the bridge.
in Khan, it never showed how he beat the program, but there was a bit where he expalained that he basically cheated (he was eating an apple, which Chris Penn does in the new film while defeats the program)
