Well, as most of you on COD W@W knows, I've been having 360 disc read errors for months. Well, I decided to send my 360 off for repair, and then went out and bought a used 360. I've heard nothing but horror stories about changing xboxs so I was online looking and found nothing that could help me so I decided to call xbox support before I did something irreversable. Well, I called customer support and talked to accounts and billing, which only pissed me off and caused me to hang up with the lady. I won't go into details, lets just say I was an absolute ass about it. Anywho I called back and talked to tech support this time, which it what I should of done in the first place. It's a long drawn out 2 step process which involves your PC, xbox.com/drm and you new or used 360 all at the same time. Well all of those steps are relatively painless, but heres where it starts to hurt. You have to go and download EVERYTHING again. It's all about the licenses, see apparently each game or downloadable content is tied to that SN of the 360. So you have to download again to attach the license with the new SN. Now some things downloaded like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5% download complete, but a few things have been full downloads. I don't know if it's because it wasn't done properly by MS the last time I had my 360 replaced or what.
See last time my 360 broke, they did everything and I went weeks with no 360, however there was stuff I had on my hard-drive that would error out if I tried to play it. I'm thinking that's what is causing this some of the content to do full 100% download. I have 63 items I have to do this with, and I've been at it for over an hour. But if I'm successful it will be worth it.
So far one problem is that my Elite had HDMI and this thing doesn't, which is now a problem because when I'm away from the house I use a 22" LCD computer monitor with HDMI, so now I guess I'm going to have to buy and adapter. The other problem is that it's white so that's it don't match. Thirdly when I get my Elite back, I will have to go through all of this again. Maybe I should of just sent it off and saved the $170 and headache.
So has anybody else gone through this?

The new repair process includes transferring all of your content to your repaired/refurb elite. You won't need to do a thing.

As for the one you just got, well... you only have to download the content you are planning to use untill your elite returns. So if W@W is all you play, only DL that stuff. Although, your elite will not be back before you leave so I understand why you are trying to DL it all.

Just remember, even if you DL it agian, it may not work. The license is still tied to your old elite SN. When the repair process is complete, it should be tied to your new elite SN. If you are online, you will not have a problem, but if you are offline, you will not be able to use your DLC.

Here's my reccommendation:
Don't bother with re-DL'ing. It doesn't do much. Once your elite comes back (if you're gone by then) use the License Transfer Tool on xbox.com to transfer all your licenses to your white xbox. You can only do this once every year. When you get back next year, you can transfer the licenses over to your elite.
Respawns give you a chance to suck less.

Yeah, I think I did already did that license transfer thing. Because I use to have two (Elite & 180) and now I only have one. But I just now got your Live message and I already downloaded everything. Oh well.

wow, that sounded like a right pain. I was of the impression that of yuo took your old hard drive and attached to another console (be it new or otherwise), provided you connected to the internet and you retrived your account (eg the password you entered matches with your details with MS), then its all good.

when my 360 went wrong, i bought a new one, attached the original HDD to the new console, signed into XBL and it all worked, I think all i did have to re'DL was the SWBF1/2/ maps

Yeah you only need to transfer the licenses if you aren't planning on logging in. Also you can't use the transfer tool more than once every 12 months. I don't think that applies to a repair... but if they replace the unit, they might try to convert over from the old elite.

Anyway I woould be careful about buying a used 360 I would be afraid of getting a banned console. Also all the new arcade versions have HDMI

Yeah, Hard drive swap works great... only if you are always on-line. As soon as your internet connection goes away, so does all your DLC.

Remember, where he's goin' he may not have internet all the time.

I know that was the case a while ago, but didnt they recently change the DRM (Digital Rights Management) so you didnt have to sign in to play your arcade games? This was because as more and more people upgrading their (or to) HDDs, people were getting sick of having to sign in to prove the contents was theirs just because they upgraded to a new 120Gb HDD

Well I looked at it like this. The tech geek said if I want to play everything, then download everything again. And like I said, most of it only took a few seconds because it was already there. Plus the last time my shit broke, my replacement came and not everything worked that I had downloaded. (BF2 and BF1 maps are still unreconizable and will have to be downloaded again by the way) The content was there, but would error out when I tried to play it. Now, so far, everything is hunky doory. At least now I will have a back up available. That is unless the hard drive craps. I will have to look back thru the past threads and find that transfer / backup thread.
