looks like the Jaspers (what a crap name to succeed the "Falcon") are the ones to look out for.
Apperently these are the new consoles with the improved hardware components (quieter, less heat generation, better heat dissapation etc).

Things is, can you imagine the look on the spotty face of they guy in the shop when you you say
"I am sorry, this is an old Falcon 360, havent you got any of the new Jasper consoles? Retailers aint gonna know what you are on about

That's what happened to me when I bought my Elite from Game, asked the guy if it had the new chipset he was like "duh dunno" I ended up having to check it myself, thankfully I had swated up on the net first.

I can understand the MS have to keep these consoles updates quiet, because if they did say "we will be releasing an upgraded 360, these will have the new 65nm chipset and better cooling etc" everyone will go "oh, i better wait till i get my 360" then suddenly they have a backlog of "old 360s" while everyone waits for the "new 360s". It is good to know that MS are working/investing in improving their console instead of just leaving it "as is" and just cream off the easy profit

These guys that do comparisions, ok fair play to them they are keeping us updated with improvements (anything that reduces the chance of a RRoD i am all for), but things like this could cause unnecessry fear among gamers to what 360 console they have/should buy.
a 360 is a 360, they all do the same job, none will do the job better or any different, only that the latest ones have better/more reliable components and will do the same job with maybe less power consumption and quieter

The Jasper consoles are quieter and produce less heat, but I think all console produced after qa certain date had bandaid solutions added so the RROD would be less of a problem. The newer consoles incorparoated these into the design. I have an elite and have been having no problems with it. I got it no too long after the Elite came out. At that point I think they had started the updates to the design so I don't expect to have a problem.

I still haven't sent my Elite off for repair yet. That disc unreadable error isn't covered under warranty, and if I keep messing with it, I can eventually get it to read a game. This is my second Elite, the first had the RRoD right after COD4 came out. I need to buy a spare 360.
Why am I in the Forums instead of gaming on LIVE?

I've come across someting interesting after the new dashboard.

When I install games to my Hard Drive, I've noticed a significant drop in temprature, usually 10 degrees or more.

Not to mention, it is much more quiet.
Respawns give you a chance to suck less.

My Xbox has it's own blog, does yours?

Yeah, i install every game now, as you said, it's as quiet as a grave and apart from the intitial load up, the tray isnt be used so thats saving on wear and tear. Its nice to not have your 360 sound like a hairdryer when it loads up the next level
