I was thinking of getting an external hard drive for putting music and films on that would plug into the usb on the 360. Streaming from the PC is fine but it gets to be a bit of a pain in the bum having to have the puter on all the time. Can anyone recommend a good make and spec I should be looking out for. Thanks

I dunno if its a bit more involved when attaching and addition Hard Drive to a 360 than adding one to a PC, I have a LaCie external Hard drive on my PC (as a back up) its 320 Gb you will get change out of 60 notes on Amazon

I use a SATA 1gb drive. You just usb cable it into the 360 eezy peezy lemon squeezy.
It you want to watch movies, you'll need to get drive formatted. (I forget to what but will check)
Then download the optional media update which takes 1 min.
The optional media download is highlighted download in the video gameplace at present.
Then when you want to watch movies or listen to music, use X button when in menu to select drive source.
The good thing with SATA drives are you can also add HDMI input port so can attach the drive directly to your tv.

Be aware that the 360 will only read drives that are formatted as FAT 32 not as NTFS. NTFS is the default file system since XP I believe. I'd have to look it up but I believe this affects how big the drive can be (you may have to partition it).
I believe the change to NTFS was because FAT 32 has no real file security. NTFS does. Because the 360 doesn't share the same users as a PC it wouldn't know who owned the files. SO it has to use a format that doesn't use security.
I would do some more research before I bought a drive

FAT 32 that's it.
Knew I had it formatted to something weird.
Just buy a SATA 1GB drive with USB and HDMI outputs, formatted to FAT 32. Cost me about $200 Aust including hard case..

I just use a USB flash drive. You can pick up 16GB drives real cheap now. Even the 64GB aren't too bad. That way it goes with me and plugs into my laptop when i'm away from home.
