holy shitballs Batman<<<see what i did there!!

The Dark Knight is now the third biggest film of all time

3)-The Dark Knight-$441.5 million
2)-Star Wars-$461 million
1)-Titanic-$600.8 million

and the film is only 4 weeks old!!!

but take into account the rising ticket prices,as i said when i went to see the film, the bastard thing set me back 8 quid!!!...but thats to be expected really,as it was 31 years ago for star wars...it was prolly free to get in the cinema then,.LOL

Titanic came out about 1997 i think, star wars 1977..and now The Dark Knight 2007 2008...so in ten years time we will have another BIG film, but only because of inflation in the ticket prices...i am guessing Keanu reeves will be desperate by then and Bill and Teds Buzzing Trip will be THE film,LOL

a linkity link cheque book and pen

and if you can't be arsed clicking on the link

quoted below, with bolded that interests me(i dont care what interests you,LOL)

Quote

"The Dark Knight" took in $26 million to finish as the No. 1 movie for the fourth straight weekend, beating the stoner comedy "Pineapple Express," which opened in second place with $22.4 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The weekend haul lifted the Warner Bros. Batman sequel to No. 3 on the all-time domestic box-office charts with $441.5 million, behind only "Titanic" ($600.8 million) and the original "Star Wars" ($461 million).

The last movie to remain No. 1 for four consecutive weekends was "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" in late 2003 and 2004, according to box-office tracker Media By Numbers. That movie did it during a much slower time of year, with nowhere near the competition "The Dark Knight" has faced during Hollywood's busy summer season.

"It's almost unheard of. Summer doesn't usually afford films that much of a wide-open playing field," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers.

"The Dark Knight" should surpass "Star Wars" to become No. 2 on the revenue chart by this coming weekend.

However, the numbers reflect today's higher admission prices, and "The Dark Knight" will not approach "Star Wars" or "Titanic" in terms of actual number of tickets sold. Taking inflation into account, "The Dark Knight" would need to pull in about $900 million to match the number of tickets sold for "Titanic" and about $1.2 billion to equal "Star Wars."

Even so, "The Dark Knight" has far outdone even its studio's expectations. Dan Fellman, head of distribution for Warner Bros., said he would have been happy if the movie simply exceeded the $205 million domestic total of its predecessor, "Batman Begins."

It should top out at $510 million to $520 million, Fellman said.

"It has taken on a life of its own, and in doing so got so much positive press and word of mouth that older audiences who normally don't rush out to see movies or maybe only see two, three movies a year are coming out in large numbers," Fellman said. "It's a question of `We've been reading about this for three, four weeks now. Let's go see what it's all about.'"

staying on the topic of films, which is handy as this is in the movie section

when i did go to see The Dark Knight(can't i just call it Batman 2?)..i saw the trailer for the new Ben Stiller comedy...which for a change looks damn funny,he directs it as well, and it stars also Robert Downey JR and Jack Black...and one of my favourite UK comedians(from Manchester no less)..Steve Coogan, who has a small role
its called Tropic Thunder

give it a watch of the trailer and tell me what you think

opens August 13th in U.S
opens er...September 19th here in the UK

Now taking into effect inflation; $1.00 in 1977 had about the same buying power as $3.61 in 2008. Which would be for Star Wars $1664 million and as for Titanic; $1.00 in 1997 had about the same buying power as $1.33 in 2008. Which would be about $799 million. Conclusion Star Wars #1!!!!!!! Just wanted to point that out.

I still have my ticket stub from '77. I paid 75 cents to get in. Probably another dollar for popcorn and a drink.

Money well spent.

shit Homebuilt, you are giving away yer age now....i was 1 year old in '77...didnt see star wars obviously, and didnt see Empire either...i did however see Jedi(and got the ROTJ sticker book the same day,it was my birthday)

i did however see the special editions(star wars, empire and Jedi) at the cinema in '97 or whenever it was, even though they weren't finished(a few technical things still werent right..and wasnt completed until the video releases of the special editions..for example when i went to the cinema to see star wars SE...the scene with Jabba the hutt that had been put back in(before Luke and Ben had got on the millenium falcon),had him speaking English,,,THATS RIGHT ENGLISH,in a wierd slightly high voice....'HAAAAN MY BOY'...and i remember a few other technical hitches with the lightsabres as well...i think in parts the lightsabres were white or something like that, come the video release, they was blue, green and red like they should be...not sure why it was,and not sure if it was in all cinemas,i just know that me and my mate saw it and wondered why the fuck Jabba was speaking English, and his animation wasnt as smooth as it is now(may have been smoothed more for DVD)

this was the scene i mean,of course the guy was taken out and replaced with the slug and this guys English voice wasnt the same i heard at the cinema,

Heh heh. Yeah I am starting to get on in years. My wife is always the first to remind me.

I don't remember jabba speaking english, but I do remember the the lightsabers. The color got washed out during the restoration process and they forgot (or didn't have time) to put it back. The most annoying thing I remember from the SE is the blasters sounded like .44 magnums, not lasers. But they fixed it for the DVD release.

Now if we could only get a High Def version of the originals.....

What I meant to say was $1.66 billion, not $1664 million, then again I was never good at math. As for Star Wars, in 1977 my parents had just moved to California from Florida when it came out. OMG, I busted open my piggy bank, my brothers piggy bank, mooched off friends that where going to see it whatever I could do to see it. I can't describe what it was like in '77, it was SO ahead of it's time. I seem to be at that prime age. I remember getting a certificate for 4 Star Wars figures for Christmas instead of the actual figures. And when Empire came out, I would sneak out, ride my dirt bike to the local drive in, sneak in and watch it. I must of done that 50 times before getting caught. However by the time Jedi came out, girls were on my radar so I only saw it like a dozen times.
