Okay so Dark Knight picks up where the last movie left off. Bruce Wayne has now fit comfortably into his role as Batman. There's a new district attorney in town Harvey Dent played pretty well by Aaron Eckhart. Rachel Dawes is now hooked up with Harvey Dent which ruffles Bruce Wayne's feathers quite a bit. Katie Holmes opted out and has been replaced by Maggie Gylenhaal who brings a lot more emotion to the role and really offsets Holmes flat acting. Lt. Gordon is taking on the mob and trying to track where their money is and what not. We see Harvey Dent's case on the mob get steamrolled as a witness turns on him and pulls a gun on him. Harvey acting like a badass disarms the guy and comes off looking tough. Everyone in Gotham is fawning over Harvey as he is the white knight while Batman is the antecedent to Batman's Dark Knight. Harvey knows he's a do gooder and tries to do everything he can to do good while Bruce Wayne is the opposite and is the reluctant hero. Jim Gordon falls in the middle of them being the average guy just trying to get by. Each person has to make a choice in the film and the film has come across very dark. If I could call this movie anything I would call it the Empire Strikes Back of the series. It ends somewhat on a happy note but even that is rather sad because of what happens through the course of the movie.
The Joker pretty much is there to cause chaos and he stirs up everyone in the city and plays everyone against each other. The mob turns to Joker to fix their problems with the cops and Batman but really he's just there to cause chaos and knows things won't ever go back. I agree with everyone who says Heath deserves an Oscar for this role. He makes Jack Nicholson look like Cesar Romero. That's the joker from the Campy 60s tv series in case you didn't know. The Joker is a sadistic rat bastard in this film. There is nothing campy about him and at times you can't help but laugh at how sadistic this fucker is.
The movie is long but in a good way as the action never slows down and there's a lot to explain in the movie. The movie had plenty of character development in it. You get to see Harvey's relationship with Rachel, the mob, the cops, Gordon's relationship with his family, etc.
The fiml is about a lot of touch choices each of our major characters must make and how each choice affects the other. I don't want to spoil the plot as there are some great twists in there. This film goes above and beyond the original batman film. I can't wait to see what they do with the next one.
Highly recommend this and will probably write more on this tomorrow 5 out of 5.
PS if anyone sees this there are a few good trailers: Watchmen trailer yes the graphic novel pretty awesome... Also the trailer for the new terminator movie. Terminator Salvation:

OMG this movie is great. It was long, but that was a good thing for me. Joker is a fucking madman. Pogue put it nicely: a sadistic fucker. Umm i really liked the plot(s). It was great.5 out of 5 for me too

the film was great, the Joker was cool, but i felt wasnt on screen enough, and just when you thought he was gonna pull of the laugh he would hold it back a little......
the film was good, but i preffered the first, and i think the first was a lot more darker than this one,the dark knight is pretty much shot during the day...oh and the car chase was no where near as good as the first films chase over rooftops!!
still, good film, bring on the third, and if reports that Johnny Depp is to play the riddler are true, then this film can't come out fast enough, just keep the whole cast and crew..and no handing Joel Schumacher the reigns!!!!
even though its enevitable,i really dont want Robin showing up...ever

i will say this though,i thought Gary Oldman(i know,i know he was part of the supporting cast)was great again as Gordon
but then again Gary Oldman kicks ass in everything he is in....Harry Potter 3,the Fifth Element,Leon(known as The Professional in the U.S.)even True Romance he was good...and when he appeared in Friends !!!
oh and be nice to Morgan Freeman,he has just had a nasty car accident and is seriously hurt-breaking news apparently.....(getting ready to edit this post to 'he has just died in a car accident')
