What happens when you put a bunch of no-name actors with a 30 million dollar budget and shoot a film on Camcorders detailing a monster attack on New York City told by some young 30 somethings. Apparently you get Cloverfield. Cloverfield is the designate name for the create that attacks NYC in this movie. Much like the Manhattan Project was a project that had entirely nothing to do with Manhattan. So I didn't expect much from this film going into it I thought it might be some cheap movie like Blair Witch. Even though it was filmed almost in the same style. So the film starts out innocently enough a bunch of friends are throwing a part for their friend who got a big job in Japan. From the getgo there's some tension as Rob the main character had a falling out with this girl Beth. He tries to fix things and she leaves when the attack happens. So we follow a group of 5 people as they make their way out of Manhattan. The monster in this movie is huge reminds me of a cave troll but it has tentacles and also little spider looking things that drop from it and start attacking people. There are lots of explosions as the monster rips through manhattan destroying buildings stomping on tanks and eating people. Theres a lot of references to myspace and what not. The statue of liberty's head comes crashing through the streets and people get out their cell phones and digital cameras to take pics of it. One of the guys decides he has to document everything that happens. It was a decent movie all in all and I enjoyed every minute of it. It got a rating of 77 on rotten tomatoes and so I would give it about 3 eggrolls at 2.99 out of 5 eggrolls.

I've never really enjoyed Japanese films but I've only watched action so I'm anxious to see what they do with a horror film.

Gotta be said, its one of the most incredible films i have seen (some people applauded at the end, i have never seen that b4). I was initally worried about a tentacled monster raging thru a city (sounds like a B movie), plus not seeing the thing in the trailers i was expecting a let down, but when you did see the monster it pulled you in and wanted to see more. as we all know it all shot thru a video camera so are right in the thick off it and my heart was pounding! the way its shot was amazing, they put you right in the action, its all shaky and real, and you may only get a glance at what need to see but boy do you see it (and remember it) so vividly, you see what you need to see perfectly, but without it being over stated
Real scary, moving stuff, the Helicopter crash was just terrifying. the Mrs said she will get for me on DVD, i give it a thumbs up and so did the Mrs

Just a quick question about Cloverfield (loved the film, saw it twice!), the monster enters Manhatten from the harbour ( we know this from it knocking statue of libertys' head off and the news report of the capsized the tanker). But what causes the 1st building to explode? you know when they are on the roof and they then run back in and all the debris is crashing down from it
